QTc Calculator
Calculate corrected QT interval from QT and heart rate using four standard formulas.
Formula reviewed against the Bazett, Fridericia, Framingham, and Hodges QT correction formulas · Last checked Aug 2026 · methodology
Formula
Correction formulas
Bazett
QTc = QT / √RR
Most widely used; over-corrects at high heart rates
Fridericia
QTc = QT / ∛RR
More accurate across a wider heart rate range
Framingham
QTc = QT + 154 × (1 − RR)
Linear correction
Hodges
QTc = QT + 1.75 × (HR − 60)
Linear correction using heart rate directly
RR is the R-R interval in seconds (RR = 60 / heart rate). QT is entered in milliseconds.
Reference
Typical QTc ranges
| QTc | Interpretation |
|---|---|
| ≤ 450 ms (men) / ≤ 460 ms (women) | Typically normal |
| Above normal, under 500 ms | Prolonged |
| ≥ 500 ms | Markedly prolonged — higher torsades de pointes risk |
FAQ
Common questions
The QT interval naturally shortens as heart rate increases and lengthens as it slows, so a raw QT reading can’t be compared across different heart rates. QTc estimates what the QT interval would be at a standardized heart rate of 60 bpm, making it comparable between readings and patients.
